Passports for adults (18 years and over)
Passport applications can be submitted in person either at the Embassy in Canberra, the Consulate General in Sydney, the Honorary Consulate General in Melbourne or the Honorary Consulate in Auckland.
Regardless of your age, you must submit your passport application in person. The Danish Mission will take a digital photograph of you, collect your fingerprints as well as your digital signature. All of these details will be used in your new biometric passport.
What to bring to your appointment?
Renewal:
- The application form duly completed. The application form must be signed in front of Embassy or Consular staff on the day of the application. The application form can be found below under download
- Your most recent passport
- Original certificate of Danish nationality, if you have previously been issued one (Statsborgerretsbevis / indfødsretsbevis)
- Original foreign citizenship certificate, if you at any time have become a citizen of another country (e.g. Australian or New Zealand citizen)
First time:
If this is your first passport or if your current passport expired more than two years ago please bring the following documents in addition to the above:
- Original birth certificate
- Copy of your parent’s passports (if available)
- Marriage certificate of your parents - only required if you are born abroad before 1 July 2014 and only your father was a Danish citizen when you were born
Further Documentation
The Danish Mission reserves the right to ask for further documentation, if necessary – e.g. a Visa Entitlement Verification (VEVO) from Dept. of Home Affairs.
Payment
An application fee applies - Fee can be viewed on The Ministry of Foreign Affairs list of fees.
If you cannot provide/present your most recent passport (i.e. if it is lost, stolen or damaged), an additional fee will be charged. Fee can be viewed on The Ministry of Foreign Affairs list of fees.
The Embassy in Canberra and the Consulate General in Sydney only accept payment by card card (except American Express and Diners Club cards).

Collection of passport
When your new passport has arrived, you will be notified by e-mail. The new passport will be available for collection at the representation where the application was submitted. Should you be unable to pick up the passport in person, it may be collected by a relative or friend. This requires presentation of a written authority from you, as well as photo ID of the person authorised to collect the passport.
At time of application, it is possible to arrange to have your new passport delivered at another Danish mission or representation for collection, incl. a municipality in Denmark. Please note this incurs an additional fee - Fee can be viewed on The Ministry of Foreign Affairs list of fees.
