ETIAS and EES

Travel authorization for non-EU nationals

ETIAS

If you are planning international travel to Europe as a non-EU national, a crucial new travel authorization is coming soon – the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS).

ETIAS is designed to enhance security while making border controls more efficient. It will streamline the entry process for travelers heading to the European Union. ETIAS will launch in 2026, six months after the European Entry/Exit System (EES), which is expected to go live in October 2025.

After the transition period, ETIAS will be mandatory for all travelers from non-EU countries.

EES

The European Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new digital border registration system for non-EU nationals traveling in and out of European countries. Set to launch in October 2025, it will automatically register biometric data (fingerprints and facial images) for travelers entering the EU.

If you travel to the EU again within three years of your first registration, you will only need to provide either your fingerprint or photograph at the border.
