ETIAS and EES

Travel authorization for non-EU nationals

EES

The European Union has launched a new Entry/Exit System (EES) which will be in effect from 12 October, 2025, onwards. The EES is an automated IT-system for registering non-EU nationals travelling for a short stay, each time they cross the external borders of Schengen. Further information on the EES can be found on Travel Europe and Entry-Exit System - European Commission.

ETIAS

If you are planning international travel to Europe as a non-EU national, a crucial new travel authorization is coming soon – the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS).

ETIAS is designed to enhance security while making border controls more efficient. It will streamline the entry process for travelers heading to the European Union. ETIAS will launch in 2026, six months after the European Entry/Exit System (EES), which will start operating on 12 October 2025.

After the transition period, ETIAS will be mandatory for all travelers from non-EU countries.
