Change to age when submitting retention of Danish citizenship applications
Previously an application for retention of Danish citizenship was required to be submitted between the age of 21 and 22. An application for retention of Danish citizenship may however from the 4th of October 2024 be submitted from the age of 20.
An application for documentation of Danish citizenship which is submitted from the age of 20 will therefore now be handled as an application for the retention of Danish citizenship. You can read more on The Ministry of Immigration and Integrations website here.
An application submitted before the 20th birthday will in this case be processed as an application for a certificate of Danish citizenship - not as an application for retention - and a new application for retention will have to be submitted after the 20th birthday.
