Trade Advisor at the Trade Council, Sydney

To strengthen the growing demand for Danish products and services in Australia, The Danish Trade Council in Sydney (TC) is looking for a new Trade Advisor. The Danish Trade Council is the governmental export and investment organisation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. TC has a mandate to assist Danish companies in expanding or initiating business activities in the Australian and New Zealand markets. You will become part of a dynamic and energetic trade team consisting of 8 dedicated colleagues in Sydney’s CBD.


The position

Reporting to the Trade Commissioner/Consul General the main objective of this role is to identify business opportunities for Danish companies Australia. As Trade Advisor, you will act as consultant for Danish companies wishing to enter, or expand their activities in the region. You will be responsible for promoting the commercial interest of Danish companies towards Australian / New Zealand partners or end-users, assisting the Danes in tasks such as sales development, identifying partners, market analyses, public affairs and other activities to promote their interest on the Australian market.

Key tasks are:

  • Collect, process and execute relevant market intelligence within various sectors
  • Organising events and attending sector fairs throughout the region
  • Coordination of activities across sectors and teams
  • Develop go-to-market strategies and/or market expansion strategies for Danish clients
  • Assist Danish companies with, and sometimes participate in, strategy execution
  • Identify and set-up business partners in AUS/NZ for the Danish clients
  • Open doors to decision makers and influents in the public sector
  • Planning of export promoting activities

Preferred profile indicators are innovative thinking, networking, attention to details, and a strong sales drive.

Desired Skills and Expertise 

  • Minimum a bachelor degree in business, finance or similar
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience in trade relations
  • Experience working with the Scandinavian culture is an advantage
  • As a person you are a team player, possess strong problem-solving skills, and are result orientated
  • A strong commercial and entrepreneurial personality
  • An experienced person with a solid network and expertise in dealing with Australian companies is preferred.
  • Great selling attributes and excellent communications skills
